Considered as an “indisputable success” by the mayor of Paris, the first Reinventing Paris project was extended in May 2017 to additional sites, mostly located underground, with a second request for proposals named “Reinventing Paris 2 – The Subterranean Secrets of Paris”.
On January 15, 2019, twenty winners were officially announced by the city, three of which we are happy to present below.
Les réservoirs de Passy, 26 rue Copernic, 75016 Paris.
Out of the four water reservoirs built on the Colline de Chaillot in the XIXth century, two are no longer in use. Hence the need for a smart and inventive solution to make the site come back to life in some other ways. A winery company (Winereef) and a team of architects (Miguel Montouro & Associés), both from the “Pays Basque” in Southwestern France, seem to have come up with the best ideas to meet the challenge…
The Winereef proposal, selected by the city of Paris, encompasses the creation of a rooftop vegetable garden, a fresh produce market, and – most surprisingly – an underwater winery and a diving school! A lot to look forward to for the inhabitants of this Parisian neighborhood.
Station Croix-Rouge, Place Michel Debré, 75006 Paris.
This subway station was closed at the beginning of WW2 and has not been reopened since (as it was considered too close to the next station, Sèvres-Babylone). To the laureates of this urban design project, the best way to take advantage of such an abandoned site is to turn it into an underground food court/market on one platform and a restaurant/cocktail bar on the other. Kudos to Same, the architectural studio, and to Novaxia, the transformation investment firm.
Tunnel Henri IV, quai Henri IV, 75004 Paris.
Located below the Morland Building (a Reinventing Paris I project), this tunnel formerly used by motor vehicles is now reserved for pedestrians and bicycles. The winning project was submitted by architects from Studio Dorell and numerous partners: AAMO, Hugh Dutton Associes, Franck Boutté Consultant, BMF, Batiss, Erpicare & Consult, Fayat Energie, Viry, Razel Bec, Relais Vert, ASO, Arkose, Les Boites à Vélo, Recyclerie Sportive, Le Bal, Lililililil, Kénéo, Géraud, WeTrott, Yachts de Paris.
The site will be dedicated to environment-friendly means of transportation, shops, playgrounds, and to a variety of sports activities, which will vary according to the season.
