Paris Fashion Week : A staple event of Paris
The Paris Fashion Week is one of the main event of fashion in Paris.
This major event is part of the Big 4 fashion weeks. I am sure you have already heard about London, Milan and New-York fashion weeks ! Contrary to the other Worldwide Fashion Weeks, the Paris’ one takes place twice during the year. This biannually show is held in Paris for spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons (exact dates are determined by the French Fashion Federation).
But did you known about the history of Paris Fashion Week ?
In fact, even if the first fashion week was held in New York, the concept comes from Paris and the famous “Salon Shows” from the 18th century. Jeanne Paquin was the first designer to expose her creation in public and Paul Poiret was the first to host such event.
Fashion became an art and the show were a way to expose its to the public in a new and luxurious style.

Those events conducted designers to distinguish Haute Couture from “normal” fashion.
In 1868 the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture was created to set the specifications to determine what was a “Maison de Haute couture” ( High couture House).
The Haute couture Shows have been held in Paris since 1945, when the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture began to require couture houses to present a collection to the press, with a specific date and a specific seasonal topic. Today the Federation oversees the main Paris Fashion Week calendar, and awards accreditations to people and designers attending the show.
