The Garnier Opera, also known as « Palais Garnier » ( Garnier Palace ) is one of most famous architecture of the city of lights. This extraordinary building is situated Place de l’Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Le Palais Garnier is a symbol of the eclectic architecture of the end of the 19th century. Charles Garnier, the architect has built the Palais Garnier after winning a contest for its construction. He is a famous architect who earned a lot of prizes. But in 1921, when he won the contest for the Opera construction, he was unkown, however he was selected in an unanimous decision.
Napeoleon III ordered its construction during the great transformation of Paris initiated by Haussmann and pursued during Napoleon III. You can visit this building, it is an historic monument since 1923. The place of the construction was decided by Haussmann.
The construction began in 1861 and ended in 1874.
